Only 31% of Americans say they have confidence that the press reports news fairly and accurately

For the third consecutive year, the number of Americans who claim to completely distrust the media remained higher than those who trust it. The new poll, however, demonstrated a slight drop, with 36% of respondents expressing complete distrust versus 39% in 2023.

A large gap remains between Republicans and Democrats, with only 12% of the former expressing trust in media reporting against 54% of the latter. However, the partisan gap has actually been narrowing in the last couple of years. According to data aggregated by Gallup, in 2022, for instance, some 70% of Democrats expressed confidence in the media.

We must continue our efforts to educate the masses, increasing numbers of Democrats are becoming aware of the propaganda because of the water carrying for the zionist genocide of the Palestinian people.

If I didn’t know any better I’d say Democrats are the most gullible. If I didn’t know any better 😐

This particular graph is confounded by the fact that Republicans are stupid as bricks and think that Murdoch-owned Fox News is not mass media.

Some don’t know, some pretend not to know. The pretending is fascinating. Partly for in-group inclusion & cohesion, partly to contribute to the roping-in of rubes, partly to “own the libs.” Probably books have been written about it, but I’ve never investigated.

Tucker Carlson being ousted from Fox may have helped Republicans realize Fox isn’t that great, and may partly explain why the Republican % is much lower than the Democrats.

Not that Tucker Carlson is much better in his views, but at least he did try to break the bubble and brought people on his show to talk about things Republicans would never even heard, like pro-Palestinian views.

To me it seems that most Republicans have tended to get their news from independent media in the last few years, which is why conservative Youtube channels, like Alex Jones (before his demise) or Judge Napolitano (more recent), are so popular.

I wouldn’t give Carlson any credit for intentionality. He’s a CIA asset* who’s built a massive audience through his unique everyman schtick. He knows his task is to maintain the masses’ false consciousness, and he does it well.

*Probably, but it hardly matters: he was born to wealth and his father was a Voice of America director, so same difference.

I don’t like him, but he and others like him can explain why Republican % is so low.

I mean, they are the most gullible. Republicans may be a little more racist and bigoted (because your average liberal sure isn’t not racist, they just like pretending otherwise to each other) but at least they don’t gobble up the MSM propaganda slop hook, line and sinker (on the other hand, they really love their reactionary conspiracy theory diet, so i guess it kind of evens out in terms of who is the dumbest demographic).
