How’s it going comrades? How’s the workouts going?

Sorry I haven’t posted in a bit. Job searching has me pretty stressed but I’m gonna try and not let that keep us from having the weekly thread moving forward I finally managed to get motivated and lift some this week.

I actually am very happy with my lifts today. I do squats and overhead presses (OHP) on Sundays. At least I try to anyway. Last week I did squats with 165 which honestly isn’t a lot but I do higher rep lower weight. I have only recently started doing squats again after almost a year of not due to physical therapy and also I needed to adjust my setup. I can’t do deep squats and had to cut some slats out of some board to sit my heels on. It’s not an ankle mobility issue though it’s my hip joints just “don’t bend that way.” Also my knees are not great but I have braces for them now and it all seems to be working.

Anyway when last I stopped I had just gotten to 165 and last week I did 4x8 sets of that after my 145 1x10 warm up. Today I did 4x10 of the 165 pluss the warm up and I feel pretty good. Gonna do one more week of that weight then move up and I’m hoping for the best.

My OHP I am also very excited about. I have been slowly working up to 4x10 sets of 95lbs. Still not great I think. I worked with a guy that did 200pb OHP and he wasn’t even that big but he also did 3x5 type sets. Anyway, I finally managed to do the full 4x10 sets of 95lb. Next week I’m going up to 105 and we’ll see how long it takes to get past that. Lol

Also did curls with my 34lb concrete can barbells. Hoping to have a set of 40s soon.

Bruh I got 2.5 kilos of a new whey powder and I can’t digest it lmao. It’s made from whey concentrate and super hard on the stomach. Wish I knew before I bought it, I don’t know what to do with it now.

I tried a friend’s native whey and no problems there, so I’m just gonna switch to the same one (+ I love those huge buckets large quantities come in; if you buy it per 4 kilos it’s significantly cheaper).

Except what do I do with the 2+ kilos I have left?? I have some whey isolate left so I think I might mix both together; I can tolerate the concentrate if I don’t take too much at once, although it’s still not great.

Try mixing it into other dishes. Also if you get powder that doesn’t mess with you gut cut it with small amounts of the other. Like a 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 ratio of good to bad powders.

This is actually what I do with the pea protein powder I got. It’s not bad but it’s really gritty by itself. So I mix it with another powder that I have that gets really thick if mixed with almond milk. When I do 50/50 I don’t get the weird gritty ess of the pea protein.

Did okay. I did a workout, went running last week and took some time off to get rest. I worked too much last year and I had extra days off that had to be taken this week, so I was sort of forced to take a week paid leave lol, so I will work out some more this week.

I´m starting to look for a more physical job as the more I think about what kind of work I do, the more I come to the conclusion that I may want to have a more active job. Sitting in an office all day is not fun anymore. I´ve worked as a carpenter and in a steel mill before and I am feeling nostalgic about working a heavy job. If I do manage to make a switch, it would be interesting to see if I can combine training with a heavy job, or if the job itself is enough. It´s either that or keep working an office job until I can build my own homestead.

I dream of building my own place. Have a general plans idea and everything. Nothing huge or extravagant but just kind of covy and quaint. But I feel it’s a pipe dream and I’ll never be able to afford it. But maybe.

I would love to be more involved with my work physically but I’m also worried about destroying my body and then having tons of medical issues later on and we all know how this country views taking care of the old. Not to defer you from pursuing your dreams though. I love woodworking only I’m not skilled enough to do it for a profession. If I could though I totally… Wood.

        claps for the pun

Anyway, from the tons of videos I watched about homesteading, some seem to do it for really cheap. I guess it all depends on the level of luxury and the location you want. Also, if you have a homestead where you have a lot of the necessities you need on your plot, you don’t need to work too much to buy them. Watching homesteading vids really made me reflect on why I work. Mostly because I need money to survive of course. But if I manage to be more self sufficient, I might be able to change my relationship with work.

Also, coming from a family of construction workers and warehouse employees, I see what heavy work does to your body unfortunately. But I also wonder how much of that will happen if you maintain a healthy lifestyle on the side. Most of my family drinks heavily and eats shit food. Can’t help but wonder if that also plays a role in their physical wellbeing. Or it’s a chicken and egg scenario, where you have to wonder if the heavy drinking and junk food is a coping mechanism for the heavy work.
