Mainframes are on their way out despite still clinging on in some applications like financial transactions. So naturally they want to diversify their corporate bullshit to the broader computing ecosystem.
Also, Xeons are still data center and enterprise chips. So not too different spiritually from a mainframe. Companies have way more disposable income to spend on bullshit premiums so they know they’re more likely to just accept it.
