Edit: in The Netherlands we are actually thaught to be proud of this history, which is lacking any sort of commentary about how we completely fucked over entire countries.

Honestly, you can’t go 5 minutes talking about Dutch history with a local without them talking about how the VOC was worth trillions of dollars and how proud they are of it. Like as if you’ll see anyone from even the US bragging about Amazon’s net worth as if it was a point of national pride.
