China put 581km (361 miles) of new railway lines into service in the first four months of the year, Xinhua reported.

The country saw 157.46 billion yuan (over $23.21 billion) in fixed asset railway investment in the period, up 0.6% year-on-year, according to China State Railway Group.

The country’s high-speed railway extended to 38,000km at the end of last year, which was 8,000km longer than the target set by Beijing in 2017.

Impressive really. Even beating your target by 8000 km.

Ever since I was a kid there have been talks about a cross Europe super speed railway, and 25 years later there still is no concrete plan I think. Meanwhile China drops 38000 km. Crazy shit.

I’m confused as to why the image is of a metro, not the CRH.

I mean, it’s still nice, but, not the new line that was just completed.

I’m sad that Europe stopped being ambitious about rail. Europe was an inspiration on rail transport once. But now it’s China.
