Comrades, F-droid is a gift straigh from Engels beard. It is the best place to find free (as in price), and free (as in freedom) apps on android. Use it abuse it.
The storefront is a little clunky but there are many hidden gems there. Trully recommend it.
Huh. Well… I guess I could find something useful, though I’m not sure what I would want at this point…
Still… Why not? Might as well give it a look-see, though I’m still not sure what F-Droid or Jerboa are.
For me the most useful apps are: New Pipe (Youtube adlfree client) - although I reccomend you look at their page for instructions into adding custom versions on the fdroid store. Keeps the updates coming faster.
There are many reddit clients, my favourite is RedReader, but that’s the most spartan one. Check infinity for more modern looking app.
KeepassDx - good password manager.
MoneyWallet - good finance manager.
Many are also on the google store, but I just prefer the FOSS versions.
Sounds good! Anything more, I’d like to know about.
Tell me, are there any apps that you can install in your browser of choice outside of the official app store for each browser?
I’m talking about for your desktop/laptop, not smart phone or tablet.
Huum, that’s outside my knowledge. However if you are looking for browser addons, I recommend firefox. Both on PC and mobile you can use uBlock Origin, really makes this hellscape of a modern internet more browseable, best ad blocker I know.
As for other app recommendations, take a look here, and here. This second post is huge. You can skip to the middle to get to the recommendations.
Thanks! I can tell already that these two webpages you linked are a godsend.
If you’re talking about browser addons/extensions outside of the official store, then you need bypass-paywalls. You can use it to read pay restricted articles and surpass article limits (like in Medium).
Nice!
From Wikipedia:
F-Droid is an app store and software repository for Android, serving a similar function to the Google Play store. The main repository, hosted by the project, contains only free and open source apps. Applications can be browsed, downloaded and installed from the F-Droid website or client app without the need to register for an account. “Anti-Features” such as advertising, user tracking, or dependence on nonfree software are flagged in app descriptions.
Jerboa is an app that works as a client for Lemmy, made by the same developers. An alternative is Lemmur which I actually think looks better, but didn’t work for me personally (as in, I couldn’t log in).
Are they… trackable? Oh, hold on. I think you can “pick and choose” (which means that you’ll have some that aren’t trackable or at least more useful than the average app on Google Play or something).
If you’d have used Firefox this video would have been so based.
It is a shame that I used brave in this tutorial. I did download Firefox with ublock after a comrade at reddit suggested it.
I’m only missing the “sort by new comments” feature in the app.
