I really hope beehaw is slow to block them, those shitposters are feral

edit: bad news, they say they’re not even going to be federating at first and when they do it will probably just be with us :( I wanted to see the confusion from libs interacting with maniacs on that instance

Just a reminder some of the “Marxists” there are of the CIA-compatible variety. Vulgar views, abuse of standard Marxist/AES positions (especially around sex work, they call those who uphold the Marxist position SWERFs).

Not awful but not free from problems either. Can mostly be ignored but I foresee struggle sessions in our future on certain issues. Certainly rather federate with them over any of the other instances but I hope our mods have their banhammers ready and we have our downvotes handy because they have some BAD takes.

Those will be a thing to watch. Hexbear is notorious for their struggle sessions.

Don’t get me started about one struggle session they had about bidets and weather being able to wipe your ass is bourgeois.

Otherwise, I am excited and a bit worried.

My ass is “the fun zone”

This is a defense of not using water to cleanse the butt. I crave death.

People cleaned their ass with water and stones and leaves, we should be happy we have pressurization to make the water itself provide abrasion. This is ridiculous.

What actually are the “struggle sessions” on Hexbear? Like, is it just a popular argument or do people actually get banned over them? Because some people seem to be taking them seriously… which seems silly.

There do tend to be bans (but smurf accounts are common because they only have permabans). Their struggle sessions are infamous because you’ll get heated arguments over the dumbest shit. Some notable ones are the outdoor cat struggle session, the rock stacking struggle session, and the bidet struggle session.

I’ve been on many sites that enthusiastically argue over the dumbest things and in the harshest language, but to take them seriously and banhammer people over those disagreements is a level I can’t imagine descending to.

Even when old /b/ would ban people for not liking chocolate milk and pouring it down the sink, it was obviously ironic.

Yea no kidding, I saw that struggle session about toilet paper v bidet and noped out for a few days. There’s being terminally online then that…Has its own term.

TBF I don’t think they’ll have temp bans until they merge the upstream.

I haven’t really seen any of that but then again I’ve only been on that site for a few weeks, they do seem significantly meaner than here

They basically quashed the one example I gave a year ago. Anyone who disagreed with their point of view has been banned, driven away, or learned to keep quiet on them.

They’re better than 99% of reddit on everything including especially imperialism but there are moments where significant parts of their user-base just kind of veer off far away from any DiaMat, principled ML views into western leftism shall we say. I don’t foresee major issues but definitely there could be a few points rare to come up that absolutely blow up into shit-storms between us and them and we’ll just have to agree to disagree and ask them to respect our rules. On the whole it should be nice and infuse some more life and activity into lemmygrad.

I remember a post talking about federation with us and one comment (person 1) was saying they should just absorb our community completely. Someone (person 2) responded with basically “yeah they are probably not willing to do that” and gave a few examples pertaining to they difference is drama levels.

Que persona 2 getting Rabbidly attacked by person 1 in a very long comment chain that was literally the perfect example as to why we would want to stay separate. I didn’t go back to Hexbear for a long while after that.

I once caught a back and forth like that. It was all about lemmy devs not wanting to implement hexbear’s gender pronouns on avatars. It was a completely pointless discussion where one person was convinced that lemmy is run by bigots.

One of the things I dislike about hexbear is how US-centric people on there tend to be. Sometimes I feel like I’m on reddit due to the amount of identity politics, pop culture references and hyper-specific memes that only someone from the Empire would really get.

They better not absorb us, I don’t even understand why they think we would even want that to happen in the first place!

Stuff like their intense struggle sessions are what drove me away. Idk if they have changed it now but when I was over there a lot they had no vetting and no way to IP ban so any trolls could just spam accounts. There’s a lot of users that come off as so over the top that I can only assume they are trying to make certain communities look bad. You have to be wary of any community that’s and easy target for controversy. And if you go in and try to have a reasonable argument or criticism of any kind you get immediately attacked. I still go there. They have a great news source and good info, but there are definitely bad faith actors.

“Intense struggle sessions” such as policing people for not upvoting their posts enough, importing /r/vegancirclejerk moderators, I’d prefer a cultural revolution style struggle if I had to pick! Not to mention that they have a problem with people using sockpuppets & trolling, which really makes it no better than reddit. I heard the whole vegan debacle pissed off their webcoders but it’s not like making a lemmy is hard

Honestly, I’m understating and omitting quite a bit.

Oh I remember the vegan imports. Anyone that so much as mentioned eating meat got harassed. Rabidly. The food com was a warzone. I think I found the Genzedong sub around that time and it was so much… Quieter. Like going to a peaceful outdoor diner after spending weeks eating at Chucky Cheese.
