This entire comment is exactly like the situation in my country. Many communists are neutral at best and actively bigoted at worst, making it impossible for me to try organizing with any communists irl. Self-described leftists are a mixed bunch, some are supportive while others are neutral or bigoted. So basically the only support here is mostly from liberals :/
I get jaded about liberals and other bad actors trying to hide behind ‘social progressivism’ or whatever they want to call it. But homophobia is pretty dog poop and a lot more compatible with capitalism than communism imo.
It really shouldn’t be. I know for a fact comrades here know that USSR criminalized homosexuality. Why would they expect extreme change in 30 years of restauration of capitalism is beyond me.
I still think its not unreasonable to call out homophobia. Of course there are alot of extenuating circumstances and context, but regardless.
the proper response is not to tail the masses on oppressing LGBT but to educate the masses on the possibility for color revolution and advance LGBT rights to a state where they can no longer be used as an excuse for color revolution. it’s not difficult to surpass western countries on LGBT rights. of course this is too much to expect of a capitalist country like Russia

From what I read, Castro wasn’t as homophobic as people say. It was reactionary elements of the Cuban military who threw LGBT folk into garrisons, and as soon as Castro found out, he put a stop to it.
He also publicly apologized for his own shortcomings on the matter, Castro was a hero
I agree, and Castro’s apology means alot. My point of contention was that I don’t think that Castro was directly involved with “throwing LGBT folk in prison”. I still think he deserves some blame but his apology was very good.
