Dropping from 50 million prior to the dissolution of the USSR.

This means over 30 years, it was not 10 million Ukrainians that left the country – it was 20 million.

Absolutely mind-boggling.

      ASB Mil on telegram:

At the beginning of the war, when Ukrainians mobilized, it was revealed by the Ukrainians themselves that their data on their population was vastly inaccurate. The real population prior to the war was around 32-33 million people.

I’m not sure where their source is from but they have generally been reliable.

So from what I’ve found, excluding Crimea, Sevastopol and the Donbass, the estimated population of Ukraine at the beginning of this year was circa 37 million. I feel like a discrepancy of 4-5 million people is a bit large, though.
