Ive been out of it for a while. Hadnt seen or heard much about Ukraine from liberals in a long time and haven’t browsed here to see anything seen found in the wild. Then yesterday I saw a truck with 2 big Ukraine flags go by almost like one of those unhinged Trump supporter trucks. For a second I thought libs had gotten bored.
The general attractiveness and support for the war as waned, but it’s far from gone. And likely won’t be going anywhere until either a new conflict comes into being, or the war ends. Though if Russia wins (which, is more of a “when”), they’ll likely lock it into the same place they put ‘free tibet’ and ‘free hong kong’ rhetoric. My guess is though it might become a lot less common, we’re going to be hearing about Ukraine for years.
With the funding and resources given to far right groups and ~70% of the weapons going over there just “disappearing”, I think we’ll be hearing things along the lines of “Russia destabilized the region” for decades, possibly.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those weapons that “disappeared” show up in a few years or months in the hands of rebel fighters in Russia. At a minimum, those weapons are likely going to end up in the hands of extremist groups and just cause more political disruption in the world.
Yeah, and that’ll be the excuse for increasing military presence.
Is there a word for the emotional state of being scared-as-fuck-but-fascinated-too?
