It would be so fucking cool having our “MLtube” free of corporate censorship, just think about all the shitposting about Stalins spoon. *oh, and video essays and theory too yeah. *

I think especially with YouTube videos and their goal there is a line that needs to be walked between having a space where we can say what we want and being on a platform where you can get a lot of new eyeballs on your content. Despite the corporate algorithms, shadow banning, etc the great thing about YouTube is that almost everyone that can access the internet uses it. While having an MLtube would be cool, if 95% of the people you’re reaching are already MLs, is the work you’re doing really productive compared to Hakim who has probably had over a million liberals see a socialist message?

On the other hand, it would be great to be able to direct someone new to communism to a dedicated ML video site so they don’t get exposured to socdem breadtube videos.

I don’t think that’s realistic. They will undoubtedly get exposed to socdem and liberal content, youtube or otherwise. What to do instead is prep people and expose them to the various ways liberal ideology can be covertly distributed, which is done consciously and unconsciously by media outlets/figures.

In addition to more overtly ML video content, there should be a more deliberate propaganda line about joining ML organizations/parties and organizations/parties of other militant Marxist forms. The major thing I see missing in a lot of Marxist mass media (youtube in particular) is the emphasis of organization, which is unfortunate.

As we have both reddit and lemmy (reddit to shake and convert, lemmy to discuss seriously) we should have presence both on YouTube and on the eventual MLtube

I agree with this 100% and that’s why I think it’s a bad move to not be on major platforms.

You have to look at what Hakim and others are doing: non-personal use of broadcast media. The major threat model they might face eventually is that of censorship, so the right response is to distribute their content on as many forms of broadcast media as possible.

I tried searching for some but to no avail.

For anyone who wants to take it upon themselves to create an ML specific PeerTube instance: Make sure to give the Server a lot of storage space or at least have it so scaling it up is trivial.

Videos, especially with high resolution and high framerate, take up a lot of disk space. Even if you use a filesystem with native compression support (ZFS, BTRFS) you gain almost nothing.

Storage space is usually the reason why some PeerTube instances have restrictions on letting people upload videos.

I think I’ve come across this before. I haven’t explored it much, but from the name “breadtube”, I imagine it may not be ML friendly.
