As part of the protesters’ security team during the demonstrations, Mr. Reinoehl’s role included intercepting potential agitators and helping calm conflicts, fellow protesters said.
“Nightly, he would break up fights,” said Randal McCorkle, a regular at the demonstrations who said he became close friends with Mr. Reinoehl as they wore on.
“He wanted change so badly,” he said. His death, he said, would likely inspire others to continue the movement for police reform. “I was going to say radicalize, but galvanize is a better word,” he said. “Honestly, I’m going to try to step into his shoes.”
Reese Monson, a leader in the local protest movement who also helps organize security, said all the people who helped with security in Portland, including Mr. Reinoehl, were trained on de-escalation.
Just to be clear, he was not killed while the police were attempting to take him into custody in Thurston County Washington. He never fired a weapon at the officers. He was in a car and they blocked his passage and fired several times into the vehicle. Then he exited and attempted to run away and was shot multiple times by automatic weapons from multiple directions. This was the execution of someone who killed an armed and violent Trumpster extremist in self defense. He was hunted down and executed. Dylan Roof killed multiple unarmed BLACK people in a church and was arrested, then fed dinner and only then taken to jail. Our national original sin may yet be our undoing. BLACK LIVES MATTER!
“I am 100% anti-facist,” Reinoehl said in the Vice interview. “I’m not a member of Antifa. I’m not a member of anything. I hate to say it, but I see a civil war right around the corner. That shot felt like the beginning of a war.”
In an affidavit from Mr. Reinoehl’s arrest warrant, released Friday, authorities describe surveillance footage showing Mr. Reinoehl and Mr. Danielson first walking along a sidewalk, apparently without confrontation. Mr. Danielson was already carrying a can in one hand — possibly mace — and what appears to be an expandable baton in the other.
The footage shows Mr. Reinoehl turning into a parking garage, reached into a pouch or waistband, and waited for Mr. Danielson and a friend to pass, according to the documents. Authorities said Mr. Reinoehl followed the two men as they crossed the street in the seconds before the shooting
