Lol I saw that thread. I know liberals are sensitive, but goddamn. I was talking (or trying, I think I was blocked due to activity in lemmygrad) about joining an instance that has us blocked.
They’d rather plug their ears and cover their eyes than critically think and inquire about why we feel the way we do.
It is a shame. I was trying to help OP out, but I think they might have blocked me individually, maybe through a mass ban of individuals in a thread they found on lemmygrad. As for the instances that have already blocked us, it’s unlikely they will ever federate with us again.
Perhaps the devs could implement a “soft” ban as an alternative to outright removal from federation. Censoring a comment or thread created by a user from the targeted instance with a confirmation click to view. I’m sure a lot of these QoL features will be added when the devs get through the enormous backlog, which has only been growing larger due to the influx of new users.
There is definitely propaganda for young people baked into our capitalist shithole societies, but to hopefully set your mind at ease, I can share some things I’ve noticed as an American Marxist. The younger generation here doesn’t have to deal with the heavy red fear their predecessors did, and the lessening of that fear, I think, is due to:
The capitalists still don’t feel quite threatened by us yet, so it’s still relatively easy to reach the youth. All of this is my personal experience here in America, of course. Can’t and won’t speak on behalf of every single country.
Will do, can’t wait to make the plunge. Time to go distro shopping, I’ll make sure to settle on a rolling distro.
Do liberals feel some kind of indescribable euphoria from taking what they believe to be the moral high ground? They’re always on their high horse, must be a side-effect of the brain rot.
The brooklyn lib seems to be encroaching on your territory in the world news community, turning it into /r/worldnews! Keep up the good fight, yogthos. I’m new to Lemmy in general and I’m sad to see I missed the days before the liberal invasion.
Ah, definitely could be it. I usually turn welfare up to level 1 or 2. On my next run, I’ll turn it up a lot higher and see if that helps with reducing the number of radicals.
Unfortunately my Arabic has decayed significantly due to my years outside of the classroom, but recently I’ve been doing some of my own studying online in preparation for returning to Arabic class.
A few months back, I went to a small Mediterranean restaurant nearby and chatted with the owner in Arabic. He recommended I come see him at his mosque where he teaches children Arabic, he said he’d love to have me there for classes. I’ve been putting it off, but maybe I should give his number a ring soon.
Home Affairs and Police are always the first laws I try to push through and I always keep both institutions at their highest level. They mitigate some of the debuffs but they don’t seem to actually reduce the number of radicals overall.
Beehaw is blocking lemmygrad, they’re federated with lemmy.ml which is federated with lemmygrad, though.
I’m a member of the lemmygrad instance and I don’t think I’ve see any content from beehaw, so you should be good over there.
Edit: Okay, I can confirm you cannot see any content from users in a blocked instance. I just looked at this thread from slrpnk.net and you cannot see my comment. And I also just read that you didn’t want to join beehaw. What’s wrong with beehaw?
I’ve played like that in the past, and unfortunately Victoria 3’s radicalization system needs a complete rework to fully commit to maximizing SoL. If you have the highest standard of living in the world, when it decreases slightly you gain +6% radicals by base. When you bring it back up, you only gain +4% loyalists by base.
My SoL is fluctuating up and down slightly throughout the entire game. Even if it positively trends over the course of the entire game, radicalization will continue to increase, leading to annoying turmoil debuffs that never go away.
I’m new, what’s up with beehaw? They blocked our instance?
I just checked out that thread you made here, and that’s some amazing content. I’ve literally been here for a day and I’m already dreading a potential drop in the quality of our discussions. Fingers crossed we continue to contribute and expect such quality.
I was curious to see the Hexbear responses as well, and as they aren’t federated yet, would you mind sharing a link here, please?
Very well said comrade, in both of your comments here. However, I can’t help but feel this line of thinking could lead passionate Marxists to feel defeated and lose their spark.
I disagree that people cannot be changed through rhetoric, we aren’t inherently Marxist, we had friends, families, online comrades help us along our journey to where we are now.
The same can be said for fascists, they too were frustrated by capitalism but they were swayed by fascist rhetoric before ours reached them. I do agree that we as individuals should not feel burdened to come up with the solution to every problem and tear ourselves apart trying to put it into place, but I believe the power of Marxist rhetoric is too powerful to dismiss. At the very least we can grow our numbers while we bide our time.
Very curious to hear more of your thoughts, thank you for participating in the community.
At the individual level, as in how you interact with your friends and family, yes, absolutely wait. Something will happen to them personally where they feel betrayed by capitalism, or we could have another global capitalism failure like the handling of COVID-19.
As a collective, absolutely not, we don’t have to wait to join parties and coordinate political actions in our communities. I hope that makes sense.
Again, this is all the opinion of one comrade.
Ohhh yeah, been there, comrade. It can feel draining to see everyone ignore issues that you’re so passionate about.
I had initially typed up a hype speech for you, with some literature recommendations for radicalization, but let’s take a step back for a moment because our movement is only strong when you’re passionate and confident in your beliefs. No homework this time, I’ll try to reassure you with my own experiences radicalizing people.
I’m not a psychologist, take this with a grain of salt, but it’s my experience that someone is not open to radicalization if they’re satisfied. It usually takes some kind of event, like George Floyd’s murder, to make people militant and open to our radicalization as a solution to their frustration. It can even be on an individual level, like their landlord illegally raising their rent, or frustration with nepotism in their workplace. They will ask why, you answer with your Marxist knowledge you have acquired through literature and discussions with other communists.
Capitalism fails everyone in the proletariat, eventually it will fail your friends or family and you’ll be ready to help them understand why.
Fantastic, thanks for the link. I’ll give it a test today.
I have noticed the ridiculous amount of libs while poking around other instances. Lemmygrad is a shining beacon of hope. When I first discovered Lemmy and the Fediverse, my first thought was I had to find a Marxist instance to call home. Hopefully most comrades go through the same thought process when making the switch.
I’m alright with my lemmygrad account. As I said in my edit, the brainrot is mindnumbing in those instances. I love lemmygrad, I’m an extremely passionate Marxist. The community here is so great I’d love to discuss things other than ML philosophy and really make it a Reddit replacement here.
