Should we be preparing for radioactive fallout?

Do you have the means to prepare for such a scenario?

I don’t 100% feel like it. The main thing is that there’s no point in preparing myself for such a scenario without convincing my family of the necessity to do so as well. I can imagine that quickly becoming expensive.

I didn’t ask if you felt like it though. Do you know exactly what will be needed to survive in the event of a radioactive fallout and do you currently have the ability to procure those things? If no, then it doesn’t particularly matter if we should or should not prepare since we lack the means anyway.

Just to clarify, when I said “I don’t 100% feel like it” I meant that I didn’t feel capable of fully preparing myself and my family for a possible nuclear attack. I didn’t intend to convey that I simply didn’t want to because I am lazy, perhaps that is my fault.

Do you know exactly what will be needed to survive in the event of a radioactive fallout and do you currently have the ability to procure those things?

I know that I would have to stay indoors for ideally 2 weeks after said nuclear attack to wait for the level of radiation outdoors to decline. Consequently, I would need access to clean and non contaminated water for that period of time, as well as some food (a bit less important than water).

I don’t have a job, so I don’t have much money for procuring things like gas masks with asbestos-free filters for everyone in my family. Perhaps one day I will, but not currently. I also do not live in a city, so it’s extremely unlikely that where I live would be targeted, however radioactive particles could easily be carried by the wind to where I live, in the event a city in my country is attacked. So I imagine it would just be a case of minimising or avoiding exposure to radioactive material.

I actually do have a (cheap-ish) dosimeter/Geiger counter that I’m working on as an electronics hobby. The problem is that I haven’t been able to get it to show the exact level of radiation unless it is plugged into my computer so that it can display that information in a console. I’ve ordered an LCD module to go with my Arduino to see if I can fix that. The Geiger tube is also made of glass, so it feels quite vulnerable.

I think the reason I posted my original comment is because seeing things like this is pretty scary, especially knowing that Trump is phenomenally stupid, and perhaps does not have a good understanding of “mutually assured destruction”. He allegedly suggested nuking a hurricane to protect the US, probably because he’s just a massive orange removed.
