Just to clarify, when I said “I don’t 100% feel like it” I meant that I didn’t feel capable of fully preparing myself and my family for a possible nuclear attack. I didn’t intend to convey that I simply didn’t want to because I am lazy, perhaps that is my fault.
Do you know exactly what will be needed to survive in the event of a radioactive fallout and do you currently have the ability to procure those things?
I know that I would have to stay indoors for ideally 2 weeks after said nuclear attack to wait for the level of radiation outdoors to decline. Consequently, I would need access to clean and non contaminated water for that period of time, as well as some food (a bit less important than water).
I don’t have a job, so I don’t have much money for procuring things like gas masks with asbestos-free filters for everyone in my family. Perhaps one day I will, but not currently. I also do not live in a city, so it’s extremely unlikely that where I live would be targeted, however radioactive particles could easily be carried by the wind to where I live, in the event a city in my country is attacked. So I imagine it would just be a case of minimising or avoiding exposure to radioactive material.
I actually do have a (cheap-ish) dosimeter/Geiger counter that I’m working on as an electronics hobby. The problem is that I haven’t been able to get it to show the exact level of radiation unless it is plugged into my computer so that it can display that information in a console. I’ve ordered an LCD module to go with my Arduino to see if I can fix that. The Geiger tube is also made of glass, so it feels quite vulnerable.
I think the reason I posted my original comment is because seeing things like this is pretty scary, especially knowing that Trump is phenomenally stupid, and perhaps does not have a good understanding of “mutually assured destruction”. He allegedly suggested nuking a hurricane to protect the US, probably because he’s just a massive orange removed.
