John Oliver discusses the human rights abuses the Uighur people are facing at the hands of the Chinese government, and why those atrocities are worth our und...
The only good thing about John Oliver is that he’s a Liverpool fan. Still not redeeming though. I liked him a lot better as an alcoholic psychiatrist teaching at a Colorado community college.
I will give him some credit though as my commie transition was helped a little by his pieces. He’s a complete lib but he definitely pushes the buttons of some of those making their way further left. It can also keep people stuck in a “liberal progressive” mindset though as he refuses to combat Western propaganda in any way, and his pieces that have a slight anti-capitalist tilt don’t actually say what the problem is (capitalism).
Ugh I am a Liverpool supporter myself (hence my username) and the club has some good history like Liverpool the city being a Labour stronghold (which is not great but still better than being a Tory area) and Shankly being a socialist. But football supporters are more like brand loyalists and I have learnt there is a good chance that I will detest someone supporting the team that I like. Made a shitty meme out of frustration.
Shame that a lot of supporters proudly proclaim themselves socialist but then shout “Free Hong Kong” and the like. My headcanon though is that YNWA is about comrades fighting through the revolution only to come out victorious
I liked him better on Community too. Shame the show wasn’t that good though. It really jumped the shark in season 3, but the first few seasons were pretty good.
