As expected, they aren’t pretending that laws, rules, elections matter anymore and can just do whatever they please. The reason they can do this is because there is no man-made law in existence that overrules the physical laws that have existed a billion years ago and will exist a billion years into the future. There is no pact in the world that can stop Hitler from invading the USSR just as there is nothing the ICC can do to the US and just as no one can decree that an apple fall upwards.
