A few years back I read an anti-war short story written by a US veteran (can’t remember the title, unfortunately), and one of the points made was that there are two things civilians can’t understand about the military experience: the sheer horror of it, and also the paradoxical beauty (power, speed, life and death, the nighttime flight of rockets) to which soldiers can easily become addicted. Seeing this footage made me think of that for some reason.
