To which I say… bring it on! While I know the attack will be nothing more than red baiting, it would amazing if people actually started looking into what he’s actually been writing about and saying. My understanding is that he’s a Marxian economist and not, say, a Marxist philosopher or whatever. And - much like Marx himself - Kamala’s dad is far more focused on critiques of actually existing capitalism than how to bring about communism.

Hilarious if the GOP starts to make the campaign about him, then people actually see what he says and then they’re like “hang on a sec, let him cook this stuff he’s saying about how the economy actually works makes sense to me.”

Edit: I added the quotes around “has a Marxist dad” in the title because, now that I’m doing some research, I don’t see anywhere where he’s self-identified as a Marxist. It appears he uses Marx’s analytic tools and speaks highly of Marx, but I also wouldn’t want to put words in his mouth. There are plenty of academics in economics and other fields like history and anthropology who think highly of Marx and apply his methods but wouldn’t consider themselves Marxists.

“My mother used to — she would give us a hard time sometimes, and she would say to us, ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?’

It really is. One of the better stand alone quotes, but probably my bias there. Also the competition isn’t good.

Top contenders George W “Now watch this drive!” tees off

Or Trump’s “Wow. I’m just hearing this for the first time…” almost sarcastic comment about RBG dying

Obama “you didn’t build that!” (Right wingers melted the fuck down over that one. The slight suggestion that petite bourgeois aren’t creators of small businesses but rather workers melted so so many brains)

        Biden’s “awhfgtbsakawhjsshhbabs… anyway…”

Or who could forget the all time classic from the Queen without a crown herself “We came. We saw. He died.” cackles

I like to believe this was her mom’s way of skirting around Kamala asking why all the other black and brown kids at school call her a coconut

I would almost bet a democrat will do that first. Some far right wing democrat like Josh Gottheimer is gonna hear someone sprinkling the most tepid criticism of Israel you can imagine and he’s gonna have like a micro-rage induced outburst from all the roids he’s on and frothing at the mouth be like “fhhhthhfhhfhfhh SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT THE FUCK UP TANKIES GAWWWWWWWWWHHHHHH” maybe flip a desk before grabbing his left bicep and falling on his knees

Don’t worry, his near death experience and blood clot directly to the brain will make him even more right wing and unhinged

Parenti’s kid is a lib too iirc

When you live in the imperial core and your own material conditions are comfortable, you have to really make a conscious effort to break left, and you have to also understand that while you may be arguing for a slight worsening in your own conditions, you’re arguing for a drastic improvement for many others. Coupling that with how American/western countries really try to beat into you that you’re on your own/you are an individual against society, well…you have to beat your own self interest and the aggressive, constant barrage of brainwashing

Yup. So many people in the west with a hint of success (or just a job). Think they did it all themselves and they are built different. And if you’re never hit with adversity, you can just go on thinking that. I’d say that white boomers have that problem in spades, the system just kept working for them.

Yup. I can’t think of anything more depressing than having a reactionary kid. Like I get the perspective of not wanting to “force” Marxism on your kids, but if this can be the result, then you probably should have.

This isn’t a Reverent Wright situation, they aren’t on good terms. Her dad dunks on her, and the GOP wouldn’t give Kamala a free chance to disown a Marxist, which she would be all too eager to do

Kamala was asked how she responds to people who are skeptical that she supports marijuana legalization: “Half my family’s from Jamaica. Are you kidding me?” Her dad’s response:

Donald Harris Slams His Daughter Senator Kamala Harris For Fraudulently Stereotyping Jamaicans and Accusing Her of Playing Identity Politics

Professor Donald Harris Kamala Harris’ Jamaican father, has vigorously dissociated himself from statements made on the New York Breakfast Club radio show earlier this week attributing her support for smoking marijuana to her Jamaican heritage. Professor Harris has issued a statement to jamaicaglobalonline.com in which he declares:

“My dear departed grandmothers(whose extraordinary legacy I described in a recent essay on this website), as well as my deceased parents , must be turning in their grave right now to see their family’s name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics. Speaking for myself and my immediate Jamaican family, we wish to categorically dissociate ourselves from this travesty.”

I mean chuds hate Mayo Pete too but I’ve never heard them mention his dad, who was not only a Marxist but was also considered the foremost expert on Antonio Gramsci.

I will put a check mark next to her name to vote against Trump.

But unless she comes out against the genocide, I won’t “vote for her”.

She’s literally the VP. If she was against the genocide of Palestinians. 1. They wouldn’t even think about putting her on the ticket 2. She has the power to stop it.

The only 2 candidates I’d consider voting for are Claudia De la Cruz and Jill Stein. I think I’m going to go with Jill because if I’m not mistaken, technically there is chance she could get the electoral votes needed to be elected. It’s like 1 in a million though, but there’s a chance.
