I get the pressures of a job can get to a person and take over their life, and I get that having children or not is an immensely emotional personal decision. What I do not understand is having children and then choosing not to raise them in favour of focusing on your job.

Anecdotal, but my father’s a teacher and he noted this to be a disturbingly more frequent trend. The school he works at is quite popular among the various types with pretense at affluency in the city (i.e. regional ministers, businesspeople). And more and more often he notes this attitude of parents towards teachers - they are seen as hired servants, essentially. And are expected to do a lot of basically parenting duties in terms of upbringing. “Outsourcing the care” as this here ghoul put it. Needless to say, it screws up the kids.

Yes, in Poland after 1989 the trend of “school is for raising kids, so raise them for me”* is being disturbingly common too as both school and work hours ramp up. Especially notable among the lumpen, yuppies and small business owners.

*Note for english language users: in polish, the word used is “wychowanie” which is very broad term for basically entire raising and socialization process, but it specifically include the parental role, so it actually sounds more improper for school than in english.

I wonder if what she’s done to her family was worth all that white adjacency tbh. I hope she can still meet her own eyes in the mirror… But let’s be real, she probably does; and thinks nothing of what she’s done already, because she’s a capitalist.
