Wonder why that dude chose to copy the sacred native American headdress when Brazil has its own variety of cool headdresses (which I presume don’t all carry the same meaning (also assuming that dude is indigenous at all))

No. Of course, Brazil is a huge country, there’s a variety of headdresses in different indigenous tribes, but they tend to look more like these:
