    individualism / idealism is really funny in how powerful it is at utterly destroying the weight that structural, cultural symbology might otherwise bear in the minds of liberals.

    “not every white dude that likes swastikas is a nazi, ok? some white dudes are like, buddhist or hindu. actually technically the Finnish air force used a swastika in their flag BEFORE the Nazis started using it, so the fact that they haven’t changed it despite the horrifying connotations that symbol carries when utilized by a european country ever since the holocaust, like who cares? there are like, no neo-Nazis in the Finnish air force, so it’s a non-political flag.”

      no meaningful cultural issues can correlate to how many swastikas a nation uses in its flags, no siree…

      (Sorry for the tangent. This sort of thinking wrt the banderite flag is just everywhere and it made me think of Finland specifically.)
