Defang. Similar to the “BLM street” acts of void symbolism done during the last years of Trump’s presidency.

Purely performative gesture. If a city wants to show genuine support it can start by backing BDS.

It’s not material support, so it’s next to useless.

Imagine a small malnourished Gazan child, injured from the bomb that took out his home and half his family, provided by the United States. He learns that the same country that helped turn his “illegitimate” country into rubble and corpses, just named a road after his home of Palestine. He weaps a single tear, as he can finally die in peace.

The council agrees and explicitly stated that this is performative and symbolic. They are not deluding themselves that this is gods gift to Palestinians. It’s a small city of 24,000 people that doesn’t have infinite capital to throw around or influence any major policy, it isn’t exactly New York City or Los Angelos.

The city is majority Muslim and the decision was taken after a petition from the citizens. Not everything is a lie.

Pandering that does nothing, but that being said, it’s still a nice gesture
