The son of Ferdinand Marcos (the US backed fascist filipino dictator that massacred thousands of communists in the 1970s and 1980s), Ferdinand Marcos Jr (also known as Bongbong Marcos), just won the presidential elections in the Philippines by a 58% landslide. He defeated Leni Robredo, a US backed antichina liberal who only got 28%. Unfortunately, the socialist antiimperialist candidate, Leody de Guzman, only got 0,18% of the vote.

Marcos is expected to continue the line of his predecessor Rodrigo Duterte, who pursued close relations with China but also reactionary “tough on crime” and “war on drugs” policies. His “Antiterrorist Law” was especially controversial, allowing suspects to be detained for up to 15 days without pressing any charges. The Marcos family also has extensive ties with the CIA, so its unknown whether Marcos will fulfill his promises to continue the friendship with China.
