Additionally, it should be pointed out that the Soviet Union explored space for scientific and human advancement. The US did it to try to one-up the ‘evil communists’

I can explain why they have this mindset too. They treat the race as an actual race with a distinct finishing line (Moon landing) and the rest being necessary checkpoints. With this logic, no matter how perfectly you score everything else, only the finish line matters.

Thankfully, we are not viewing history in this shitty light and can judge things the adequate way.

Happy that China is at least picking up where the USSR left off in regards to space.

I sometimes have trouble differentiating over the internet between sarcasm and seriousness partially because I’m neurodivergent, but denying the moon landing is almost as stupid and wrong as denying the curvature of the Earth, no hyperbole.

I’m not attacking you or calling you stupid, I’m criticizing your statement. It pains me that the U.S. put a man on the moon first, and I agree that in the grand scheme of things, the Soviets “won” the space race. But to deny the U.S. moon landings despite the millions of pieces of corroborating evidence from millions of sources such as amateur astronomers, rock samples, the level of technology at the time, the lack of good video editing and green screens required to “fake” the moon landings, is stark raving mad.

…yeeeeah, you definitely should’ve because… Well. You know people. In a surprising amount of places this wouldn’t seem like something sarcastic.

It’s perfectly normal to be unable to differentiate between being serious or sarcastic when it comes to the whole Moon exploration program because on the fucking Internet there’s actually a very chonky population of people who believe the landings to be a hoax and you can find such individual in the MOST unexpected places.

Trust me, I got thrown off there for a sec myself.

That was my thought process as well. I assumed/hoped they were being sarcastic, but there is always a non-zero chance.

bro lmao. on a side note the best argument against the moon landing being a conspiracy is that the soviets would have easily found out. Us communists would be shouting from the rooftops
