Then the japanese happened, for a pretty long time, then after taiwan returned to China by the end of WW2, it haved some peace, but when the KMT got fucked on the civil war, they fleed to the island and instaled a dictatorship there, and apparentelly Chiang Kai Check haved an breakdown and ordered the murder of most of the natives.
