    I wonder what the reason for this escalation was, and I think oil fight is the most convincing. Either that, or the russian-german relationship was warming up too much, and the US needed to stop that before its too late.

      nah, this is older. this is about Halford Mackinders World Island theory (very popular among royalist imperialists and their strawmen). in which the US is going to lose if it doesn’t balkanize Russia to shits and doesn’t extensively moisten the buttcracks of azeri, mongolian and kazakh leadership (which NATO has been doing for quite a while, i mean the Shah Deniz 2 Gasfield and all the stuff around the caspian sea is something nobody wants to miss. Even that one Schicklgruber dude wanted a piece of that… He wanted it so badly, that he was willing to flatten every russian city to tie russian forces into battle just to keep them from interferring in baku. and we all know how that went
