I always knew the Liberal academia was white-centric but this level of ignorance is astounding!

Every empire ever has exploited local political tensions to expand their borders, especially in areas that are remote to the heartland. The Aztec and Incan empires were conquered by exploiting ongoing civil wars. The Romans achieved their initial gains into Britain, and probably other places, by playing into political rivalries.

She needs to spend a week in rural Central America to understand this shit. Some of the darkest mestizos you’ll meet who swear they’re white and using Nazi terminology to describe the indigenous. Will marry and have sex with anything white that has a pulse. Dreams about moving to the US and getting a white spouse and mixed kids.

And you’re surprised their descendants are fighting for a white supremacist org?

Also it’s really telling about American racial ideology when even the whitest Latinos automatically become non-white as soon as their last name ends in a vowel. I have actually had Americans argue to Latinos with pale skin and bright blue eyes that they aren’t white for that exact reason.

If I’m being really generous, I’d say “political scientists” after the 1510s should probably understand this concept, but really this kind of thing has literally happened for as long as there has been any kind of persecution of any group so I’m really confused by her confusion.

You don’t have to be bright to have an advanced degree. Hell, you don’t even have to be especially gifted in your own field to hold an advanced degree, you mostly just need to be capable of rote memorization/recall.

I feel like outside observers usually understand the concept of compradors naturally when they see it in action as long as they understand that people of other “races” are not fundamentally different from them. Which probably says something about this “political scientist”.

I’ve read so many police brutality cases where the officer has a hispanic last names. Hispanics are the fastest growing police ethnicity, but are still under represented as a portion of population. and while having a Hispanic last name doesn’t mean they self identify that way, it does seem like poc cops try to prove themselves to their colleagues by brutality. When was the last nationally reported police murder that was exclusively white officers? Tyre Nichols, George Floyd, and Freddie Gray all included multiple poc murderers.

Research suggests that more black officers in a white dominated police force actually increases fatal encounters, and only once there is a near majority do fatalities decline again. https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2017/02/04/513218656/does-having-more-black-officers-reduce-police-violence

Ngl I like, generally understand the concept and I’m aware that compradors exist in every persecution but I do also definitely feel the “How the fuck could you do this, and how stupid are you to think this will save you?”

We’re not talking about people in concentration camps who’re getting extra food or something for being a snitch, these people could simply not join ICE or CBP. Go work for McDonald’s or something dude, the pay is barely less and it’s way easier on the conscience.

As the Spanish empire was less hung up on the idea of avoiding intermarriage with the natives than the English were, there’s much more of a spectrum of latinos from an ethnic standpoint. There’s some that are entirely or nearly entirely indigenous, likewise with Spaniard ethnicity, a whole bunch of in-between, plus afro-latinos. This creates a dynamic where some latinos think they prove their “good one”/European status by showing sufficient fealty and service to the nation, especially in the form of expelling the “bad”/indigneous latinos.

“Every colonized people - in other words, every people in whose soul an inferiority complex has been created by the death and burial of its local cultural originality - finds itself face to face with the language of the civilizing nation; that is, with the culture of the mother country. The colonized is elevated above his jungle status in pro- portion to his adoption of the mother country’s cultural standards. He becomes whiter as he renounces his blackness, his jungle.” - Frantz Fanon, Black Skin, White Mask.

ICE doesn’t give $50k signing bonuses either, going by the complaints of the goons in question

CBP doesn’t do that, never has, and never claimed to, and yet 50% of their staff are fucking kapos

i.e. people who only found out after they took the job and are probably still being strung along that they’ll get it eventually if they don’t quit.

But also, idk man $50k is a lot of money but it’s not that much money. I have a STEM degree and could certainly make more money if I decided to do work that would kill people but I don’t want to kill people and so I do aging research and it didn’t take me a fucking moment of thinking to make that decision

Unless you’re being starved, it’s not that hard to not deliberately take a job to hurt specifically your community, and trying to come up with a “material conditions” based analysis to explain it I feel like takes away the agency of these monsters. They chose to do this, of their own free will, and they should hang for it. If they were truly pushed into it, that feels like excusing their actions.

I’m not trying to downplay the agency of these monsters, just saying that they probably care way more about money than anything else and don’t really have any sort of moral compass. I’m not saying they were “forced into it” or anything like that, just that they like money and don’t care about the people around them because our society is so atomized. The real mystery here is why that supposedly doesn’t fit into any liberal political theory?

I kind of get it in a way. These are people who are desperate for money, might lack an education, or have learning disabilities that make it hard to gain one. They then hear about a 50k signup bonus with seemingly no educational or deep experience required, and they take it.

They don’t actually get that money and may not even read the contract thoroughly enough. I know it’s easy to say they could just not do it but I could see someone having all of the above and living in an area with few job opportunities taking it. Same reason Native Americans join the military more than any other racial group per capita.

I used to do work for some very shady people roughing up clients because I was borderline homeless and in a bad place in life. Hunger and poverty will make you do a lot of things just to live another day.

That, and US Latinos often have parents come from some of the poorer parts of their mother countries. The type of regions where white supremacy and white worship are overwhelming. They often pick up their parents mindset of white=best and carry it with them.

ICE is probably the only job out there right now in the US that is (1) hiring like gangbusters with basically zero qualifications and (2) pays really well. I know a couple long-term unemployed people whose lives would be fixed in many ways if they signed up, except for the fact that they’d be doing nazi shit.
