From what I’ve seen, it’s not just for talking about homophobia. If there’s a different reason, hopefully things can be clarified. (Personally I would prefer more transparency and letting the sub’s mods handle things, but growing pains like this are understandable for a new site.)

Thanks. If we’re going to have certain disallowed sources, though, we should probably clarify what those are beforehand. Currently, there are no rules to that end in /c/lgbt, which is part of why I made this thread–so we can discuss it in the open instead of banning everyone or spamming articles repeatedly.
perhaps if Lemmy gets to the point that communities can have posts up for days (or weeks) before admins see them, we can be more laxed and hands-off about moderation, but try to see it from our perspective. We’ve advertised Lemmy as a site free of liberals, free of the shitty hot-takes of reddit, but you - a new person in this case who’s only logged on for the first time - get on to see, instantly, multiple posts from propagandist sources that utilize xenophobia to make a point. That’s an instant turn off and would directly affect user retention. Same with the brigading and the trolls.
We don’t honestly want to have to remove posts, and we hope community moderators can do what they can to keep posts like the ones that have been removed to a minimum.
I see your perspective and agree with your concerns. However, I still think that fair moderation and delegation of authority should come before marketing the site’s image. Personally, I’d like to think that it would work better to point out in the comments, “hey, this source is biased,” rather than just remove it outright, and eventually people will look to better sources and create a higher community standard. After all, at this rate, people won’t see these articles, but what they will see is a major feud because of policies that were never made clear and seem to be enforced arbitrarily. Y’all have been doing a great job as admins, and I would really like to see this site succeed.
I’m not head admin so I won’t make promises, but we’ll do what we can to make our rules more clear, make our bans/removals better explained, and generally provide more autonomy and clarity.

Its pretty easy for any US news company to write a completely unsourced article demonizing its enemies (currently russia, china, VZ, Iran, Palestine, NK) , and have it spread around like wildfire, ultras more than happy to join the liberals in the frenzy and build support for war against the US’s enemies.
Reddit’s front page is always full of these articles: it confirms the racism / xenophobia of its main audience.
I know its also annoying for me or any admin to remove a post, esp before discussing the article, but of course the nature of a brigade is that they get a ton of ppl to instantly upvote it to the top, and that needs to be taken care of. I wouldn’t hesitate to remove explicitly homophobic or racist posts, and I don’t hesitate to remove western propo either (at least for now, until we decide what sectarianism is allowed here)
I think we should make the site-wide rules clearer then. They are in the sidebar on the main page, but thats easy to miss. How about showing a dialog after signup where users have to agree to the site rules? The rules should also be clarified better, the first rule (No capitalist apologia / anti-communism) is not clear at all, even to me.
Ya I agree, we can work on them a bit to make them clearer. Based on this recent brigade my siege psychology is intensifying lol, and think that maybe we should propose / add a rule regarding demonization of the enemies of the west. Like I had to remove 10 shit-tier anti-maduro / VZ memes. Something like : critiquing anti-imperialist states = okay, simplistic memes , not. I dunno.

I only made /c/LGBT because there wasn’t already one when I signed up for Lemmy, and you’re definitely a lot more active here than I am. While I’d like to continue as a mod, it seems to make much more sense for you to be head moderator or whatever you want to call it.
