It was inevitable. Stop making subs with chapo in the name or don’t be surprised when they get banned. They will always ban them. I’m still not convinced as many are here that reddit is determined to purge all communists from it. They still haven’t hit /r/socialism or /r/communism or the 101 subs. I think they are trying to drive a lot of CTH users off the site but I don’t think they’ll keep going forever. We need to wait a month or two and make something that doesn’t have chapo in the name, doesn’t mention it and doesn’t have the exact same themes. With luck because technically Chapotraphouse was a podcast sub for a specific podcast we can make a general reddit sub for the left again in future. We just need to wait for them to turn down their systems for detecting evasion.

And FYI the rule for remaking or repurposing an existing sub to serve the same purpose as a banned one (ban evasion) was created while they were fighting off I think the million dollar extreme fascists who had at least two dozen ban evasion subs they kept cycling through so it wasn’t made to target the left necessarily.

Yeah it makes sense as a rule, but in this case it was weaponized in a way that was contrary to its intended purpose. Rather than fighting ban evasion, it was used to destroy a subreddit that was a branch of a branch of a community that had only been banned after the divergence.

I think you’re definitely right about dropping the ‘chapo’ name, though.
