idk if you’ve heard of his work but Satoshi Kon projects are absolutely rad for scratching that psychological horror-ish itch - particularly the series Paranoia Agent and the movie Perfect Blue
Fair enough! I will say that Paranoia Agent is more like a suspense thriller with a psychological bent, and Perfect Blue is much the same. They have scary bits, and mind-melting bits, but much of the drama is very human. Paranoia Agent is an interesting deconstruction of “mass hysteria” and Perfect Blue is stunningly visionary (having come out in the late 90s) when it comes to social media personas and how they are far different from our true selves. It was originally about pop idols and their public personas, but it translates super well to the modern internet age.
I remember trying to watch this in the past, but it’s been pretty boring and i didn’t liked the style too.

A big part of why i found this boring is that i have anti-itch for psychological horrors and for horrors overall.
