Zygmunt refused, partially because the condition was that Władysław change religion to orthodox and Zygmunt was living and breathing catholic fanaticism, but mostly because he was really powerless there, doing good face for a bad game and was basically trying to ride the warlordic polish dukes who didn’t even wanted to conquer, they wanted to loot and pillage, so that entire polish ruling over Russia was a pipe dream from the start.
