Their idea is that the rest of the world is culturally and politically inferior to the west, and only the West can enlighten them. Anything that night threaten that illusion they take it personally, even if it is an economic bloc. The idea that someone somewhere can choose an alternative to western finance and technology is a threat. The idea that ‘rogue’ states have options is a threat.
This point right here ties into why it’s so godawful expensive to renounce one’s citizenship(in an economy where the average Amerikan can’t afford a $1000 emergency expense, no less), and why they’ll still come to raid your pockets for taxes after the fact on some banditry shit.
