I know all communists should be a member of their relevant union; however, no one in my workplace is unionised (and I am on a short contract anyway).

Being a union member benefits the entire working class — such as by pushing for labour laws that benefit even non-union members, and by bringing workers into the class struggle — hence I want to contribute to this, rather than just freeload on it. However, it does cost $50 per month so I want to ask you comrades if you think it’s worthwhile before I spend my money.

Depends on what your union does, I guess. My union offers me free legal support if needed, helps me to look for new job opportunities if I want to and also financially compensates me in certain situations. Mine is not as expensive though so it’s a bit easier to join. But all these things are worth it for me. You never think you need a union until you need one, I always say.

That being said, maybe talk to some of your coworkers first. Some might also want to join.
