Cheat their ass off in HOI4/Kaiserreich just to see the map go red?

I’m not megamind enough to “get” grand strategy, especially Paradox games. I just like to bump production to 10,000% and form the United Socialist South American States.

Out of every strategy game I’ve played, HOI4 just eludes me. Can’t do anything in that game despite spending ages watching pros and reading different tutorials. It’s a shame because it’d be fun to experiment with alternate histories, but alas.

Don’t blame you at all. I play Kaiserredux (using Easybuff+, cheats set to a bajillion) and sometimes the alt history is cringe as hell obviously written by libs with surface level knowledge of history, but… sometimes it’s worth it, like forming the USSR out of Georgia.

Oh I don’t expect much out of modmakers’ politics considering one of the most popular mods seems to be an Anarcho-Syndicalist anti-ML fanfiction, but that screenshot’s pretty cool

You’re probably thinking at this game too literally. Like pick USSR and follow their historical development, seize Berlin, etc.

Truth is they’re games that are meant to be abstracted. Annex China as the USSR to get more productive capacity, stuff like that. Don’t think of it as the USSR, think of it in terms of your resources.

Learn how the AI works and exploit that.

I didn’t really get into HOI4 because while I like the combat, I don’t like that it devolves into WW2 at some point. I mean, it’s supposed to, but it just freezes up the entire second half of the game with wars everywhere. I like blobbing in EU4 and just fighting smaller enemies without getting stuck into endless wars.

Yeah, the few successes I’ve had have been when I watched someone better than me exploit the AI. I’ve managed to win the Spanish Civil War as the Republicans a few times as well as conquer Xibei San Ma, Sinkiang and the other one near Communist China (only to get steamrolled by Japan and carried by ROC). But then I try to put what I’ve learnt to something as basic as invading Poland as Germany in either 1936 and 1939 and I can’t even beat them before the Allies have set troops everywhere. :(
