I don’t remember reading that, but it’s common knowledge that at least NYT and WaPo let the State Department edit their articles. WaPo is owned by a Defense and Intelligence contractor. The Guardian has been taken over by GCHQ. So I wouldn’t be surprised if the CIA is ghostwriting articles.
I also definitely remember a “freelance journalist” (who gets published to newspapers that have an open writing policy like huffpost or others) being a cia agent. Or, IIRC, the story was that he got his articles all made from the CIA or other front business, and then he just submitted that to newspapers under his name.
