Ukraine’s state-run energy operator warned Saturday that “there are risks of hydrogen leakage and sputtering of radioactive substances” from the country’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant as shelling in the Russian-occupied area continues, despite international pleas for a ceasefire.

“As a result of periodic shelling, the infrastructure of the station has been damaged,” Energoatom said in a statement, cautioning that “the fire hazard is high” and that the plant “operates with the risk of violating radiation and fire safety standards.”

All you have to do is think this through, Russia holds the site and is operating it, it would make no strategic reason for them to bomb it. I also have good reason not to trust a Ukranian news site, this is a nation that has outlawed even taking food that comes in from the east if you are starving, there is good reason to believe that there is an independent press.

Imagine actually believing that Russia is shelling a plant that it has troops in. What possible reason would they have to do that. Then Russia invites IAEA to inspect the plant that they’re supposedly shelling. The fact that grown ass adults actually believe this to be the case is absolutely mind blowing.

Yeah, imagine thinking that Ukraine would be shelling the plant they lost. Explain to use how and why Russia would be shelling the plant they control and have troops stationed at. None of you trolls have ever provided a plausible reason for that. You believe it simply because anything that’s obviously bad and idiotic must be done by Russia as opposed the fascist regime you’re in love with.

Imagine actually believing that Ukraine is shelling a plant they’re trying to secure. What possible reason would they have to do that?

You really need to think this through. Ask yourself what would happen within the military if the average soldier of the Russian army felt like their own side was happy to shell them. Ask yourself how Russians would feel being order to shell other Russians. Ask yourself what kind of incredibly damaging chatter that would cause to permeate among the ranks of the entire army.

No military shells its own side on purpose. It’s totally utterly ridiculous. It’s self-defeating. Your men will walk away, you will have no military left.

Actually Rosatom refuses to operate the plant and it’s still operated by the Ukrainian Energoatom. Hm, I wonder why is that? Maybe so they could put the blame on Ukraine when they blow that shit up?

Isn’t the Kyiv Independent one of the outlets getting tons of money from the US and EU propaganda funding cutouts? I can’t find sources at the moment but I remember reading a bunch about that in the spring. A media organization has got to have more than the word independent in their name to qualify for the term.

Additionally, external funding or not, the UA government has banned all journalistic organizations which didn’t act as government mouthpieces or which weren’t owned by people close to the government (ie. also government mouthpieces).

i think you’re thinking of the Kyiv post, who fired all their journalists last year and hired a bunch of shills, and are owned by some Odessa oligarch. Kyiv Independent are the good guys, can you please just look outside your bubble for one hot second and look at some other viewpoints rather than make assumptions?

Of course a Ukrainian newspaper is not going to admit if Ukraine is shelling near a nuclear power plant in Russian occupied territory. You wouldn’t accept RT as an unbiased source, so why should anyone accept the *Kiev Independent?

Kyiv Independent are the good guys

Oh sweaty, there are no good guys and bad guys in this world. Moral judgements are not what determine credulity either.

Zelensky closed all opposition media, so what does that make the Independent?
