I love COH2 but honestly I’ve been getting pissed at it.
Like, they portray the Nazis very neutrally. They’re not throwing the Holocaust or fascist values around. The factions are stripped of the ideology that made the backbone of them and their explicitly genocidal intentions with the Slavs to the East, the explicitly genocidal front of the war that makes this whole game.
Yet with the Soviets it feels like they’re playing a game of, “Yeah yeah we wanted to make an Eastern Front COH game but, like, no worries, we still know Stalin was just as bad as Hitler,” with the whole storyline of the main character being against human wave tactics, the evil commissars, the gulag at the end and how the protagonist couldn’t be a good guy without deciding the communists were bad too. Not to mention random quips in the otherwise awesome voice acting (heard some random conscript talk about how he’s jealous of Americans and their TVs once, like why is this necessary).
