Gonna see if I can find this again, and link it here if I can, but a while back I saw a reddit thread about conditions in Cuba. An actual immigrant showed up and stated that he was in the US purely for economic reasons – working and sending money back to feed his family – and that he would return to Cuba again if he could. He ended up saying that yes, Cuba has problems with hunger and poverty, but it’s the fault of the United States, not the Cuban government. “Who do I blame? Not the man who broke the power of the mob in Havana, and who singlehandedly built my country into a medical research powerhouse. It’s not Castro. It’s not the communists. It’s the pigs across the water.”

There are several Cuban emigrants who send back money to their families and even encourage some of them to open small businesses in Cuba.
