Well I was laughing how nothing will happen and it’s just western hystrionics right until 23rd February. Look where we are now.

Some communists in Russia (non kprf ones) do in fact predict that our government is going full USA and will be attempting to establish a firm “sphere of influence”, where foreign involvement will not be tolerated. For example, Kazakhstan might get a bit of a knock on the door, for trying to act out.

That said, while Ukraine and Kazakhstan both have a variety of resources and useful infrastructure (gas hubs, uranium, etc), I don’t know if Moldova has anything of the same scale. So for now I am once again willing to write this off as scare mongering and an attempt to rope yet another country into buying NATO weapons.

I would not be surprised by this, even if Russia doesn’t fit Lenin’s definition of imperialism it is still possible that the oligarchs want to build up influence aggressively. Also it may be preemptively stopping foreign meddling in the region, but I think it would be naive to think that no economic benefits would be drawn from that
