Personally, I’m afraid that the government will round up communists for imprisonment - just like always seems to happen when a state goes fascist.

I’m within the outer blast radius of a major city, and live in a strategic smaller city. Nuclear attack and occupying invasion has been a fear since childhood.
Nuclear attacks are more likely to be aimed at key distribution hubs and food sources, i think the fear of cities being nuked is overblown. Cut off food and distribution and cities die anyways.
It is to a degree overblown, but the US missile strategy during the cold war was ‘collateral damage before logistical damage’ I.E. their strategy was to send missiles to strategic cities (Leningrad, Kursk, Warsaw, etc). Not to shut down an attack, but to kill off large swaths of the population, making an attack morally difficult to produce. And, the Americans assumed that would be the Soviet strategy. The city near me is one of these kinds of cities. It’s densely populated, somewhat centrally located in the country, but provides little logistical value. So with the American tendency to project, it was assumed that city would be a target. Though, I don’t personally believe it would be targetted.
