I didn’t really know where to post this but I figured this is sub is the most general sub.
So my mom is a socc dem journalist and Recently made an article on Cuba and the current “regime” not accepting democratization by the EU. So naturally I respond with examples of disasters by free market policies and Eastern Europeans.
She also linked me a study of some sort by the civil rights watch.
If anyone could help me with any of these points I would be very thankful.
The first russian elections after the fall of the USSR are enlightening (especially since the US had to help Yeltsin to win, and it is widely agreed that he used false votes, as well as, well, buying every piece of media he could and making propaganda as much as he could with the help of the US, even so the result between him and the CCP was near). Check Yugoslavia’s dismemberment too, maybe. The Asian Crisis of 1997. Argentina’s 2001 crisis. Ha-Joon’s book on ‘kicking away the ladder’ for developing countries and on economy make a case for the fact that modern countries used not liberalism but protectionism for their development and then impeded third-world countries to take the same route (with cases such as South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and ofc Communist China actually being able to use a similar route through military dictatorships and in China, the CCP), so you might wanna check that out. As for Cuba, investigate the embargo and why they wouldn’t accept “democratisation”, Fidel talks about what actual democracy is in Cuba here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmWhTKFHET0 and why they do not want the US “democracy”. These are all just pointers haha, but hope the help. You might be referring to this survey: https://thecommunists.org/2019/07/26/news/workers-eastern-europe-former-ussr-prefer-socialism/ tho I remember there was a picture which summed it up, you can always go to the source and make the graph yourself in Word. Good luck!
