23·2 days agothe resolution was specifically condemning slavery as “the gravest crime against humanity.” it was sponsored by ghana, whose president is pushing for reparations to africa. the western argument against the resolution was that because there was no international law during the trans-atlantic slave trade, international law wasn’t broken and therefore reparations are not necessary or lawful lol

3·4 days agohard to be sure without more information, but probably something nefarious if i had to guess

3·5 days agofor whatever reason i’ve been listening to and playing my favorite song by gordon lightfoot a lot. some slightly confusing but interesting imagery regarding the seasons in the lyrics. the guitar work in the live version is wild, and i like some of the chord progressions he uses (G7 -> C -> c is a personal favorite of mine).

7·5 days agojust recently finished the biography on lenin i mentioned in a previous thread. was a little unserious but still a very powerful read, would recommend it to anyone; also a pretty easy read to get through. sad in the end haha.

3·8 days agoyeah, having access to instruments + taking lessons can be prohibitively expensive for a lot of people, and it takes a time commitment that can be difficult to, well, commit to. but, singing is always free, at least!
and thanks! i might not learn it all the way but it’s still fun to fiddle around with

3·9 days agoi do! i really want to learn the preston track now haha, the riff is so good and i have it stuck in my head all the time now. have you heard the cover by AJ croce?
that sounds awesome! i’m glad you enjoyed it and had a good experience with it.
things like that are always easier said than done, but i’m sure you can do it. good luck, and hope you feel better soon
firstly, i got rid of or altered any social media that has algorithmic content suggestion and endless scrolling. overproduction (in this case, of content/information) incentivizes capitalists to get you to overconsume, regardless of whether or not that overconsumption is unhealthy/addictive.
secondly, i investigated what internal features or contradictions i had left to resolve that would explain why i defaulted to hopelessness. part of what’s meaningful about revolutionary optimism to me is the fact that it not only feels much better than hopelessness, but is also the correct/optimal cognitive approach. and, it applies to society as much as it does to every individual life.
i think it’s much easier to be revolutionary optimistic when you actively unlearn whatever you learned to become/feel helpless, rather than trying to simply paper over your helpless feelings with revolutionary optimism, which always felt kind of fake to me. this may or may not track with your experience, but that’s the process i’ve gone through to actively and permanently feel more hopeful.

3·10 days agothat’s really interesting, thanks for the explanation! and yeah, the influence of brian eno and minimalism in general on tracks or genres like that makes a lot of sense to me. i’ve never been able to fully get into ambient stuff myself for both ideological and sensory reasons (that’s a long discussion lol), but i think about the correlation between it and popular music a lot. and, it makes a lot of sense to me as calm, inoffensive background music for work, meditation, or in this case walking around an airport hahaha.

i feel like 8 years is pretty damn good lifespan for a laptop, good job
