  • Counter point : Tibet was also it’s own empire long ago, it also was unstable during most of the Quin rule, kept it’s own political class since it’s medieval times, rebelled against and expeled ethnical chinese several times in its existence and was mostly a tributary of the several political entities that are seen as the precursor of modern China.

Llhasa was always it’s own thing under the mongolian rule, the quin dynasty rule, the gelug rule, ect… With their own tribal leaders, sub religions (from bon to all the flavors of buddist they had) perpetuating their own peculiar brand of rule on their people.

Three centuries are nothing compared to the thousand year history they had before the quin, and claiming that Tibet is chinese at the very least, a very large simplification, if not an outright attempt at disinformation.

Tibet is culturally, religiously, legally (in the sense that they had their own code of law) distinct from China and has been for next to always.

What you are claiming is akin to saying that Quebec in Canada always was Canadian because their indigenous tribes contiously were conquered by the English and French colonist in the 15-16-17 centuries…

  • I think that 70 years of McCarthyism poisoned the western discourse so much that without rebranding communism, it won’t happen.

The overtone window is so far right that people mistake the center-right for the left.

Just saying communism or socialism is enough to brand one as such and close any form of debate.

History has been weaponized against the people in such a way that there is two versions of each events in the communism world - and no amount of verification and denial will make the participants realize that it’s mostly fog of war and propaganda.

Right now, there is rampant sinophobia and russophobia that helps re-inforce the “communism bad” narrative.

News from North Korea are ridiculized and each success is turned into a “but how many person died for dear leader” joke.

In the western world, the media control is total and the political system is hopelessly liberal, to a point where it’s a central democracy in which the only ideology possible is how to enrich the current kleptocrats.

Revolution is nearly impossible, as social movements are seen as disruptive, and the latent fascism of the west make the proletariats think they are better than their neighbors. This blatant lack of empathy makes it impossible for the proletariats to stage protests and class solidarity.

The proletariat has been atomized, bought and browbeaten into submission and will not move forward while the kleptocrats pillage the commun good, and build themselves survival systems for the systemic collapse of our ecosystem.

So, I think the future will see a collapse of human populations, a replacement of human expertise by technolocial systems, all of that to make the news kings - the childrens and chosen ones of the current kleptocrats - the new custodians of what will be left of humanity and our ecosystems.

I don’t think the current post communist-era countries have what they need to counter this trend.

Fascism is rising again, and will oppose what could be the hope of all, for personal gains.

But after that, maybe communism and humanty has a chance…

    That’s a very good take.

But don’t forget that some of the most stupid of us (mainly the CEO’s), will buy in the hype cycle and wreck the life of a lot of people by making the move to generative ai thinking it can actually replace people in their corporations.

  • It’s not even a secret, it’s not even hard to find rich people saying just that.

It’s simply the only thing that is going on.

We are stuck with people who think life on earth is just a way to get to heaven where everything is perfect, so they don’t care what happen here.

These people are taking a lot of long term decisions in the industrialized world.

We are also stuck with people who exploit their way to power, and frankly don’t care what happen in the future.

These people are also taking a lot of long term decisions in the industrialized world.

We are also stuck with the naive people who think everything is alright, because they wish it so

These people could be the balance of power but they instead choose to do nothing and sit on their hands because they think that in the end, everything will be alright.

    I’m kinda depressed suddenly…

  • Japanese society is a form of modern slavery. Once you are out of university and a “salaryman”, all your hopes and dreams are crushed. You’re the feodal slave of someone who inherited his wealth and is using the ultra-conservative system to keep you in the same position all of your life.

This is why most Japanese media are all about the power of youth and such…

  • I just don’t get why you’d be on board with death penalty at all.

    What does it solves exactly?

It’s so abusable and there’s no take back… I feel it’s mostly an emotional solution to material issues… It also has been proven to not have a detering effect.

It’s mostly the same as torture. Ineffective, abusable, permanent.

I’m not saying this as an attack or something, I’m just genuinely puzzled at any kind of support to death penalty.

  • It is.

Pharmaceutical, chemical industries, some high tech material … They also count assembly of parts in semi-automated factory for final product as manufacturing.

I’m not sure it’s cheating. It’s just that manufacturing means more than just steel and base products…

You can still have good manufacturing output but not be producing base products. It just means that you have a different import/export profile.

Just look at the us imports/exports, you’ll see what I mean…
