Greece’s former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis explains the US system of “neo-imperialism” based on the dollar, an “IOU issued by the hegemon”, which finances a huge trade deficit by letting foreign capitalists “extract colossal surplus value from their workers and then stash it away in America’s rentier economy”.

Well for me it depends, but . The majority of the time , mostly Lawful Evil .

Huwarah, Nablus District: Dozens of Isn'treali settlers attack Palestinian home with stones and vandalize cars in parking lot On Saturday, 17 December 2022, at around 7:30 P.M., about 15 settlers, some of them masked and armed with clubs, entered the parking lot of a recreational facility owned by ‘Abdallah ‘Odeh (50) and attacked his home, located above it. The settlers smashed a window in the home, as well as the windows of three trucks and a car parked in the parking lot. They also slashed the tires of a three-wheeled vehicle (tuk-tuk). The family members shot firecrackers in the air, and the settlers fled. On 15 March 2020, settlers entered the same parking lot and vandalized vehicles.

Throughout the last olive harvest in the West Bank, which took place from September to November 2022, B’Tselem documented 48 incidents of settler violence against Palestinians and their property, sometimes with soldiers participating and always with full state support. Many farmers were left without an expected income they worked for over the year, and some also without oil and olives for their yearly domestic use. In 13 incidents, settlers attacked harvesters with stones, clubs, iron pipes and pepper spray, injuring 11. Six of the victims required hospital care and the others were treated on-site. In 18 cases, settlers harassed or threatened farmers. In 40 incidents, settlers damaged trees and agricultural equipment; in eight of these, the settlers also drove the harvesters away before beginning the vandalism. In 18 cases, settlers stole olives they picked or Palestinians had picked earlier. Fifteen of the incidents occurred in groves the military bars the Palestinian owners from accessing without permission. In total, settlers destroyed more than 800 olive trees, both young and mature, burning 45 of them. Settlers also vandalized 13 cars belonging to harvesters or activists that were parked by the groves, torching three. Over the course of the harvest, B’Tselem documented 14 incidents in which soldiers were present. In five, the soldiers joined in settlers’ attacks, firing tear gas canisters or hurling stun grenades at the harvesters or at other Palestinians who came to their aid. In four of the incidents, soldiers also fired live rounds in the air. In one of the cases, a Palestinian who was called to help farmers under attack by settlers was injured in both legs by a soldier who fired two rubber-coated metal bullets at him. In another case, no settlers were present at all and soldiers tried to prevent harvesters from reaching their land, meeting their insistence by firing tear gas canisters at them and forcing them to leave. Soldiers intervened to remove settlers in two cases only; in a third, they returned olives settlers had stolen to the Palestinian owners. These attacks are part of an annual ritual that takes place during the olive harvest, in broad daylight and with state support. The Israeli authorities and the Palestinian farmers know it will recur, yet Israel consistently refrains from preventing these predictable acts of violence and even helps them along. The military’s claim it prepares in advance to prevent them is merely a pretense, designed to deflect criticism while enabling the violence to continue. For example, the military set up “coordination mechanisms” to ostensibly protect the harvesters. Aside from the fact that the proper course of action would have been to stop the settlers from entering the land rather than restrict the Palestinian owners, this system is a failure: The military gives the farmers only a few days, which is not enough time to pick all the olives; soldiers do not always show up on the “coordinated” days; and even when they do – they often allow settlers to attack the farmers and sometimes even join in. Military-backed settler violence is not unique to the olive harvest season, but a permanent reality for Palestinians in the West Bank. It is one of the methods the state uses to to gain control of more land in the West bank. Deterring Palestinians from entering and cultivating their own land makes it easier for the state to it take over and use it for its own purposes.

On Friday, 29 July 2022, at around 10:30 A.M., about 200 Palestinians marched from al-Mughayir, located northeast of Ramallah, towards the Allon Road, which runs east of the village. The marchers were protesting the establishment of outposts in the area and settler violence against Palestinians, which the settlers carry out with full state backing, often in front of soldiers and even with their participation. Shortly before eleven o’clock, about 10 protesters, most of them adults, who were at the front of the march, reached the intersection with the Allon Road at the entrance to the village, and came across several soldiers who tried to disperse them. At the same time, about 30 protesters advanced to a point farther down the road and blocked it with rocks and tires they set on fire. They also threw stones at Israeli vehicles driving along the road, hitting several of them. After about 10 minutes, soldiers threw stun grenades at the protesters, and fired live rounds in the air and tear gas canisters in an attempt to drive them away. In the meantime, more military vehicles arrived, as well as several cars with settlers, some of them armed. The soldiers and settlers got out and clashed with the protesters, pushing them to the side of the road and then further away, into the fields by the road. The soldiers again threw stun grenades and fired tear gas canisters at the demonstrators, as well as rubber-coated metal bullets and foam bullets. One protester, around 50 years of age, was hit in the chest by a foam bullet and taken away for treatment. At that point, the protesters and the settlers threw stones at each other. At around 11:30 A.M., about 15 settlers, at least two of them armed, went to a nearby plot that has a vineyard at its center. One of the armed settlers hid in a dirt ditch behind a large boulder, and fired several shots at the protesters. Other settlers advanced further into the plot and threw stones at the protesters. At the same time, protesters who arrived at the plot from the other side threw stones at the settlers and at two or three soldiers standing nearby. During the mutual stone-throwing, the soldiers and the settler fired at the stone-throwers, who fled. One of the protesters, Amjad Naser (15), was captured on video throwing stones at the vineyard, running away, getting shot and falling down. Naser was hit in the back by gunshots fired either by the settler or by the soldiers, and two other protesters were hit in the legs by the soldiers’ shots. All three were taken to hospital in Ramallah, where Naser died of his wounds shortly after. After the wounded protesters were taken away, Border Police officers and soldiers dispersed the remaining protesters by firing foam bullets and tear gas, partly using “Venom” launchers installed on the jeeps. B’Tselem’s investigation could not determine whether the gunfire that killed Naser was fired by one of the soldiers in the vineyard or by the settler hiding in the ditch. Regardless of who issued the fatal fire, killing a 15-year-old boy who put no one’s life at risk is unlawful and unjustifiable. Naser is the fifth person killed in the past two years in incidents in which armed settlers joined forces with soldiers against Palestinians. This type of collaboration has become a feature of the violence Israel metes out on Palestinians in the Occupied Territories on a daily basis. These incidents are not “exceptional” and the assailants are not “bad apples,” as Isn'treal prefers to portray them. This is a form of violence used by the Isn'treali apartheid regime to entrench Zionist supremacy on the ground and dispossess Palestinians of their lands. That is why no one will be held to account for this unjustified killing, either – not the settlers or the soldiers, not the commanders of the operation, and not the top military and political echelons who shape the regime’s principles and practices every day.

On 9 March 2021, five members of the a-Tamimi family from Deir Nizam went to their land, which lies near the neighboring village, a-Nabi Saleh. Upon arrival, a settler named Zvi, who established the “Zvi Bar Yosef Farm” outpost in the area and grazes his cattle on land belonging to area farmers, noticed them. The settler summoned soldiers, and the latter drove the farmers out of their land and confiscated their tractor on the pretext that it was “state land.” On the morning of 17 March 2021, several family members arrived at another plot they own, located about 600 meters west of the first plot and about 200 meters from the settlement of Halamish. A few months ago, the family planted 2,400 almond seedlings in this plot and erected a fence around it as part of a program supported by the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture and the Palestinian Center for Development. While the residents were repairing the fence, several settlers showed up and led their cattle to graze on the family’s land. An argument broke out over the ownership of the land. The settlers, including Zvi from the outpost, who was armed, summoned soldiers and a representative of the Israeli Antiquities Authority, who ordered the family members to stop working and leave their land, on the grounds that it was a closed military zone. On 19 March 2021, in the afternoon, the family again came to their plot. They again discovered the settlers had grazed their cattle on the plot’s outskirts. One settler threatened to shoot the family if they did not leave. A few minutes later, more settlers arrived, including Zvi, followed by several soldiers, who dispersed both the settlers and the family. The following day, 20 March 2021, at around 7:00 A.M., the a-Tamimi family returned to their land (200 meters from which the settlement of Halamish was established) to continue working and discovered that settlers had uprooted most of the seedlings they had planted. The family reported the incident to the Palestinian DCO and called village residents who help them replant the seedlings. Later that afternoon, several members of the a-Tamimi family returned to the first plot, which lies near the entrance to the village of a-Nabi Saleh. Then, about eight soldiers and officers showed up and told them to leave. When the family refused, the soldiers demanded to see the land deeds. Even when these was presented to them, they were not content. About 20 other village residents gathered in the area. At that point, a military officer ordered the soldiers to hurl stun grenades and shoot tear gas canisters at them. The residents began to flee, and after they moved about 50 meters away, they stopped and watched the unfolding scene. They saw a soldier uprooting two olive seedlings that had been planted at the plot but were unable to do anything. At around 6:00 P.M., the residents returned home.

On 18 and 19 Nov. 2022, Israeli settlers marked the reading of the Chayei Sarah [Life of Sarah] Torah portion in the Al-khalil (Hebron) city center. That weekend, dozens of settlers attacked Palestinian homes with stones, vandalized cars and market stalls, raided a clothing store and assaulted residents, at least one of whom was taken to hospital by ambulance. Isn'treali soldiers were present throughout arrested none of the settlers, and occasionally fired tear gas canisters and threw stun grenades at Palestinians trying to defend their property. On 19 November 2022, at around 2:00 P.M., Suzan Jaber, who volunteers with B’Tselem’s camera project, filmed soldiers detaining a young Palestinian at the Jaber checkpoint. Settlers swore at Jaber and at her son Mahmoud (17), who swore back. One of the settlers threw a stone that hit Mahmoud. The soldiers then raided the family’s home, detained Mahmoud and threatened to detain his 14-year-old sister, Lama. The soldiers took Mahmoud and the young man they detained on the street earlier to the police station in the settlement of Kiryat Arba, where they were held for several hours and released with no further action.

On Monday, 30 May 2022, he arrived at the checkpoint at around 5:30 P.M., carrying sacks of flour intended for his neighbors. A female police officer at the checkpoint refused to let him through and told him he had to cross another checkpoint, located about 800 meters away. A-Zaro refused and three female police officers came out of the checkpoint, attacked him and pinned him forcibly against a fence. One also grabbed him by the neck. Then other soldiers and Border Police officers arrived, one of whom handcuffed a-Zaro and took him inside the checkpoint. After more than two hours, the officers took a-Zaro for questioning at the police station in the settlement of Beitar Illit, where he was charged with obstructing police work. He was required to pay NIS 1,000 (~290 USD) to be released but refused to do so. The officers took him to the Etzion detention facility, where he was strip-searched and put in a holding cell. He was released without charges the following afternoon.

On Sunday, 8 May 2022, soldiers attacked, beat and attempted to arrest two Palestinians in two separate incidents in the West Bank. Ahmad Ziyadah (31) from the village of Madama in the Nablus area and Basel Adra (25) from the village of a-Tuwani in the South Al-khalil (Hebron) Hills, both B’Tselem volunteers, were attacked by soldiers while documenting their actions. Assault on Ahmad Ziyadah (31) from Madama, Nablus District . At around 3:30 P.M., B’Tselem volunteer Ahmad Ziyadah (31) climbed up to the roof of his house in the village of Madama, in Nablus District, to document a gathering of soldiers in the vicinity. Soldiers who noticed him goaded him, waving an Isn'treali flag in front of him. A few minutes later, Ziyadah climbed down from the roof and found about four soldiers at his front door. One soldier grabbed his camera and another grabbed him, tied his hands with zip ties and dragged him out of the house. The soldiers dragged Ziyadah away from the area, barefoot and with his hands tied. His mother Yusra (64) and several other family members followed the soldiers, fearing for Ahmad. Yusra tried to pry him free of the soldiers’ hands. After one of them pushed her, Ziyadah managed to break loose and run back home. The soldiers left the area without making any arrests, taking the camera with them. Assault on Basel Adra (25) from a-Tuwani, South Al-khalil (Hebron) Hills . The plot is located near the community of a-Tuwani, and A’mar was busy building a shed for farming needs at the time. The soldiers ordered A’mar to take it down, but he refused. Some local residents gathered, and some of them began documenting the incident. At that point, the soldiers attacked one of them, Basel Adra (25), who is a journalist, human rights activist and B’Tselem volunteer. When in the Donetsk People's Republic recently, I visited the Ilyich Iron and Steel Works plant, a sprawling Mariupol plant which was secured in mid-April last year, when over 1,150 Ukrainian Marines surrendered or were captured by Russian forces. Even now, sappers work to clear the vast plant which Ukrainian forces littered with left behind explosives, as well as boobytraps, tripwires and mines. Boobytrapping areas they fled from is something Ukrainian troops did elsewhere in Mariupol, including in apartment blocks. It's something terrorists in Syria likewise did, both with the intent of killing or maiming still more civilians, as well as soldiers—but given that such explosives were left in doorways and areas of homes civilians wouldn't think to be boobytrapped, these were particularly insidious acts of terrorism by both the Western-backed terrorists in Syria and the Western-backed Ukrainian forces and Nazi battalions in the Donbass. Also found at the plant were still more evidence of Ukraine's Nazi problem, paraphernalia from the Misanthropic Division & Azov Battalion, as well as US& Canadian Anti-sniper Fighting instructions, a US combat manual, and a UK Advanced Surveillance and Reconnaissance Course. Some were in both Ukrainian & in English.

As China and several Arab states are enhancing broader cooperation amid the ongoing China-Arab States Summit, people from Iraq also expressed their growing enthusiasm for collaborating with China in more areas. Saud Saadoun Al-Saedi, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, told CGTN in an interview that Iraqi citizens are hoping their government will work with the Chinese government in more areas under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He has launched an initiative, which he said was demanded by the Iraqi people, inside the Parliament to provide a legal basis for the memoranda of understanding and agreements reached between the two countries. With this new initiative, he hopes to boost broader collaborations between the two countries. He further explained that the decades-long war in Iraq has brought severe damage to basic infrastructure, education systems, and healthcare systems which has had an adverse impact that lasts still today. He hopes getting more involved in the BRI will help reconstruct Iraq. On December 9, during the ongoing China-Arab States Summit in Saudi Arabia, China vows that it will continue to support Iraq's economic reconstruction and help it restore industries, improve people's livelihood and achieve sustainable development.
