Searching Continental Internet Exchange only brings up AI generated articles for me. Worse, some articles may be confusing DE-CIX projects with an African Union led effort to keep internet traffic local, as shown in this article from eurweb.

Edit: on second thought it seems the “Continental Internet Exchanges” they’re talking about are the centers established by DE-CIX which stands for “Deutsche Commercial Internet Exchange”

Digital decolonization is a necessity in today’s world. Glad to see Africa take a big step toward it.

The statistics are quite astounding. Over 200 million Africans relocated to the Continental Internet Exchange in the three days after its debut. This pace of development outshone Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok’s quickest expansions.

Why is it so? It basically offers African consumers a superior experience.

I didn’t really clue in to how much Africa is likely paying for internet services to western companies, basically a neo-colonialism. This is a great step in the right direction.
