I see them being called traitors that supported Iraq and being funded by USA I even seen some people on the Iranian Opposition hate them. (This is a meme on how much people hate them.)

        @coco0330@lemmygrad.ml Well when they were formed they were against the US backed shah of Iran and did partake in the '79 revolution. After the revolution they took position against the theocracy. So they launched armed insurgency against the government and the Islamic republic responded to it with brutal crackdown. Later, Saddam Hussein gave them refuge and used them as a proxy against Iran in the Iraq-iran war. They participated in many military operations alongside the Iraq army. So that’s the historical reason. Now they try to appeal the west as an alternative to the current Islamic regime to gain their support.
