Von der Leyen reported that despite Russia’s blackmail, Europe is prepared for winter and has gas reserves.
Wtf?
EU: We need to cut off Russia from the world! Stop buying from Russia, stop importing from Russia! Ban all Russians and everything Russian from the world!!! AAAAAAA!
Russia: OK, then we’ll stop sending you gas.
EU: Stop weaponising energy and blackmailing us you monsters!
Oh God no. More inflation.
Infinite money hack.
It was already bouncing up before this stupid move. I’m sure next year will be wonderful.
Hilarious how she was talking about the need for Europe to stop using Russian energy just last week. You’d think she’d be thrilled about this as it’s helping achieve what she claims to be her goal.
See, I know at least Germany’s utilities are inflated because when I compared my city (known for its stupidly high utilities) and Berlin (plus other German cities) all prices were pretty much the same. That not good at all.
In conclusion, they should’ve taken the Russian gas.
My electricity price rose “just” 20% because the German government introduced a price cap. Without that it would have jumped 50% if not more.
Gas peaked at €0.40/kWh (for new residentual contracts) in Fall 2022 (the time of the Nordstream sabotage, weird…), since then it’s come down to €0.09, which is still a 100% increase over the price before the NATO escalation which directly led to the war in Ukraine.
How much would you pay per month for electricity pre-nord stream sabotage?
Edit: What I mean to ask is: how much electricity would you use and how much on average per month would you pay before the sabotage?
I switched electricity providers in May 2024 to get a better price. Before that I had a contract signed in late 2019 for which I paid about €53 per month for 171kWh (two person household). Since May our consumption has gone up a bit (three person household, and no significant time away) to 186kWh per month which costs about €76 per month. Heating the apartment and hot water are paid separately so this doesn’t include the ~20% increase in heating costs.
Tldr: my electricity consumption went up by 9% and my bill went up by 43%, and that’s taking advantage of switching electricity providers to get one of the best prices available to consumers.
Energy is going to be 25% (up to 32% depending on where you live) more expensive in the next year in Austria, thanks EU.
