Von der Leyen reported that despite Russia’s blackmail, Europe is prepared for winter and has gas reserves.

Wtf?

EU: We need to cut off Russia from the world! Stop buying from Russia, stop importing from Russia! Ban all Russians and everything Russian from the world!!! AAAAAAA!

Russia: OK, then we’ll stop sending you gas.

EU: Stop weaponising energy and blackmailing us you monsters!

My electricity price rose “just” 20% because the German government introduced a price cap. Without that it would have jumped 50% if not more.

Gas peaked at €0.40/kWh (for new residentual contracts) in Fall 2022 (the time of the Nordstream sabotage, weird…), since then it’s come down to €0.09, which is still a 100% increase over the price before the NATO escalation which directly led to the war in Ukraine.

How much would you pay per month for electricity pre-nord stream sabotage?

Edit: What I mean to ask is: how much electricity would you use and how much on average per month would you pay before the sabotage?

I switched electricity providers in May 2024 to get a better price. Before that I had a contract signed in late 2019 for which I paid about €53 per month for 171kWh (two person household). Since May our consumption has gone up a bit (three person household, and no significant time away) to 186kWh per month which costs about €76 per month. Heating the apartment and hot water are paid separately so this doesn’t include the ~20% increase in heating costs.

Tldr: my electricity consumption went up by 9% and my bill went up by 43%, and that’s taking advantage of switching electricity providers to get one of the best prices available to consumers.
