It’s fun seeing people out themselves as nuclear-illiterate fascists by saying “nuke China”. It’s like, “I advocate for the complete genocide of Chinese people, because I don’t much like what western media says about them.” but also, nukes aren’t an end-all-be-all, they’re intended to be used in a way that makes invasions easier. I.E. you’ll nuke important sites, things like major cities, stockpiles, forts, ports, etc. Then you send in your invasion forces to hold those territories and hope the enemy either capitulates for mercy, or is pushed into areas of their territory that haven’t been built up. You don’t just nuke a country and win, but I guess that misconception comes from teaching about the nuking of Japan, but not teaching about the pressures onto Japan by the USSR.

Thankfully, having played StarCraft, I understood this. A perfect nuke might demoralize the opponent enough to surrender, but you’re not going to actually destroy them without an army.

It’s a lot like the nukes in Hearts of Iron IV, you can nuke a state, but if you want to hold it you will have to put units on it.
